THOUGHTS
Yesterday we discussed the peril of dull hearts in difficult times. The
cure to that problem we must “truly SEE JESUS”! There is a
beautiful story in Luke 28:13-35 that has always warmed my heart. Jesus
has risen, but his revealing is in process. Two men are walking and
talking of the recent events and Jesus joins them. He teaches them about
himself from the scripture. Then he “Opens their eyes”!
Luke 28:31-34 Then their eyes were opened and they recognized Him; and He vanished from their sight.
32 They said to one another, "Were not our hearts burning within us while He was speaking to us on the road,
while He was explaining the Scriptures to us?" 33 And they got
up that very hour and returned to Jerusalem, and found gathered together the
eleven and those who were with them, 34 saying, "The Lord has
really risen and has appeared to Simon."
We used 2Pet 1:19 recently. The above passage area is parallel.
[So] we have the prophetic word [made] more sure, to which you do
well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and
the morning star arises in your hearts.
Jer 15:16 Your words were found and I ate them, And Your
words became for me a joy and the delight of my heart; For I have been
called by Your name, O LORD God of hosts.
Ps 19:8 The precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing
the heart; The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.
John 6:63 "It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh
profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are
life.
Ps 119:50 This is my comfort in my affliction, That Your word has
revived me.
The story in Acts 8 of the conversion of the Ethiopian is
marvelous. Philip preaches Jesus to him, water appears, with a beautiful
confession he is baptized.
Acts 8:39 When they came up out of the water, the Spirit
of the Lord snatched Philip away; and the eunuch no longer saw him, but went
on his way rejoicing.
What of that rejoicing heart? Is it mine TODAY? Maybe each
of us should take a piece of paper and five minutes, and write down what
we might suppose he rejoiced about?
A BURNING, REJOICING HEART IS CAUSED BY SOMETHING! THERE IS A SOURCE!
Eph 3:19 and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled
up to all the fullness of God.
My Prayer:
Oh wonderful God of all, may your living and active word bring rejoicing to our
hearts. May your words revive us! Give us joy in partaking of your
living word! Help us to ignore this physical world that lures us from our
focus. Cause our hearts to burn within us over the joy of knowing you in
fulness.
In Jesus name
Amen
